Ans : Total number of legs of both 7 & 8 leged octobus = 54. Find number of 7 leged octopuses

Q 24 The ratio of current age of X and Y is 5:7. After how many years their age becomes 7:9?

Ans : Simple ratio

Q 25. by using 1,2,3,4,5,how many 5 digit no. can be formed which is divisible by 4,repetation of no. is allowed??

Ans : 2500 (not sure)

Q 26. XY=21 and X+Y=13.ans of X & Y will b in points..den x square+y square=??

Ans : Solve using quadratic eqn. you get x & y

Q 27. Person travels from A- to b in 9km/hr, and B to A in 4 Km/hr. What is the average speed?

Ans : 2(9*4)/9+4

Q 28. Avg marks of 5 sub is 61. Six sub mark is 89. What is the average after adding 6th?

Ans : (61*5) + 89/6

Q 29. Find number of 3’s between 1 & 100?

Ans : 19

Q 30. A pipe can fill a tank at the rate 1 litre/hr, the tank is 1/32 filled in 6 hours. After how many hows the tank is filled completely

Ans - 1/16, 1/8, ¼, ½, 1. After 5 hours.

Q. 31. A man has to get air-mail. He starts to go to airport on his motorbike. Plane comes early and the mail is sent by a horse-cart. The man meets the cart in the middle after half an hour. He takes the mail and returns back, by doing so, he saves twenty minutes. How early did the plane arrive?

Ans:10min:::assume  he started at 1:00,so at 1:30 he met cart. He returned home at 2:00.so it took him 1 hour for the total jorney.by doing this he saved 20 min.so the actual time if the plane is not late is 1 hour and 20 min.so the actual time of plane is at 1:40.The cart travelled a time of 10 min before it met him.so the plane is 10 min early.

Q. 32.  2 trees are there. One grows at 3/5 of the other. In 4 years total growth of the trees is 8 ft. what growth will smaller tree have in 2 years.

Sol) THE BIG TREE GROWS 8FT IN 4 YEARS=>THE BIG TREE  GROWS 4FT IN 2 YEARS.WHEN WE DIVIDE 4FT/5=.8*3=>2.4

ans: 1.5 mt 4 (x+(3/5)x)=88x/5=2x=5/4 after 2 years x=(3/5)*(5/4)*2 =1.5

Q. 33. There is a six digit code. Its first two digits, multiplied by 3 gives all ones. And the next two digits multiplied by 6 give all twos. Remaining two digits multiplied by 9 gives all threes. Then what is the code?

sol) Assume the digit xx xx xx (six digits)
First Two digit       xx * 3=111
                     xx=111/3=37
( first two digits of 1 is not divisible by 3   so we can use 111)
Second Two digit xx*6=222
                xx=222/6=37
( first two digits of 2 is not divisible by 6   so we can use 222)
Thrid Two digit    xx*9=333
                  xx=333/9=37
( first two digits of 3 is not divisible by 9   so we can use 333)

Q. 34. There are 4 balls and 4 boxes of colours yellow, pink, red and green. Red ball is in a box whose colour is same as that of the ball in a yellow box. Red box has green ball. In which box you find the yellow ball?

Ans is green...

Sol) Yellow box can have either of pink/yellow balls.
if we put a yellow ball in "yellow" box then it wud imply that "yellow" is also the colour of the box which has the red ball(becoz acordin 2 d question,d box of the red ball n the ball in the yellow box have same colour)
thus this possibility is ruled out...
therefore the ball in yellow box must be pink, hence the colour of box containin red ball is also pink....
=>the box colour left out is "green",,,which is alloted to the only box left,,,the one which has yellow ball..

Q. 35. A bag contains 20 yellow balls, 10 green balls, 5 white balls, 8 black balls, and 1 red ball. How many minimum balls one should pick out so that to make sure the he gets at least 2 balls of same color.

Ans:he should pick 6 ball totally.

Sol) Suppose he picks 5 balls of all different colours then  when he picks up the sixth one, it must match  any on of the previously drawn ball colour.
thus he must pick 6 balls

Q. 36. What is the number of zeros at the end of the product of the numbers from 1 to 100

Sol) For every 5 in unit palce one zero is added Ch eta naS
so between 1 to 100 there are 10 nos like 5,15,25,..,95 which has 5 in unit place.
Similarly for every no divisible by 10 one zero is added in the answer so between 1 to 100  11 zeros are added
for 25,50,75 3 extra zeros are added
so total no of zeros are 10+11+3=24

Q. 37. 10 Digit number has its first digit equals to the numbers of 1's, second digit equals to the numbers of 2's, 3rd digit equals to the numbers of 3's .4th equals number of 4's..till 9th digit equals to the numbers of 9's and 10th digit equals to the number of 0's. what is the number?.(6marks)

Ans:2100010006

2---shows that two 1's in the ans
1---shows that one 2 in ans
0---shows no 3 in the ans
0---shows no 4 in the ans
0---shows no 5 in the ans
1---shows one 6 in the ans
0---shows no 7 in the ans
0---shows no 8 in the ans
0---shows no 9 in the ans
6---shows six 0's in the ans

Q. 38 A and B are shooters and having their exam. A and B fall short of 10 and 2 shots respectively to the qualifying mark. If each of them fired atleast one shot and even by adding their total score together, they fall short of the qualifying mark, what is the qualifying mark?

Ans is 11

coz each had atleast 1 shot done so 10 + 1 = 11
n 9 + 2 = 11
so d ans is 11

Q. 39 Gavaskar average in first 50 innings was 50. After the 51st innings his average was 51 how many runs he made in the 51st innings

Ans) first 50 ings.- run= 50*50=2500
51st ings.- avg 51. so total run =51*51=2601.
so run scored in that ings=2601-2500=101 runs.

Q. 40. Anand finishes a work in 7 days, Bittu finishes the same job in 8 days and Chandu in 6 days. They take turns to finish the work. Anand on the first day, Bittu on the second and Chandu on the third day and then Anand again and so on. On which day will the work get over?

a) 3rd
b) 6th
c) 9th
d) 7th

Ans is d) 7th day

Sol) In the 1st day Anand does 1/7th of total work similarly,
Bithu does 1/8th work in the 2nd day
Hence at the end of 3 days, work done = 1/7+1/8+1/6=73/168
Remaining work = (168-73)/168 = 95/168
Again after 6 days of work, remaining work is = (95-73)/168 = 22/168
and hence Anand completes the work on 7th day.(hope you understood.)
PUNE JULY 13
Hi, there I attended TCS internship paper on July 4th and I would like to share the experience with you people. It was a non technical paper purely on Quant, verbal and critical reasoning.

Once you clear that you don't have any other rounds, i.e., no technical rounds. They have a total cutoff (no sectional cutoffs), which they didn't disclose and if you clear that cutoff you are in for the internship. The break down of questions and marks are as follows:

1. Quant - 40 questions - 1.5 marks each.

2. Verbal - 30 questions - 1 mark each.

3. Reasoning - 10 questions - 1 mark each.

There was no negative marking and as the test was at their company not in my college campus, I got to see their campus at hinjewadi which was awesome. It was a cool experience and I got in so will have fun for an year ;).

I hope my post was useful and hope even you people would crack it and All the Best!!!!

Tata Consultancy Services - Chennai, April 25, 2010.

Hi All, I attended TCS interview.

No of Rounds: 4

1. Aptitude.
2. Technical Interview.
3. Management Interview.
4. HR Interview.

Aptitude: I gave my aptitude at 11:00 am on 29th of august 2010. This  round was online (touchstone ) with +1 for each correct answer and -0.33 for  every incorrect answer. In all there were 35 questions to be solved in 60  mins. No verbal questions. Logical And Quantitative Questions on subjects like  age, average, series, permutation and combinations etc were asked. The  difficulty level was not so high but the questions were lengthy and  unnecessarily made complicated.

Half of the question (especially first half) was just to increase the length  of question and divert attention..Formulae are also provided for reference which I  then go to check whether they were useful ;)
For age related problems for eg.

Peter and Paul were friends. After six years Paul will be twice as old as  Peter was when peter was as old as paul..if sum of their ages is 36 find the age  of peter.
1.
2.
3.
4.

Here we have to solve by considering the options and substituting the value  in the equation obtained. This was the nac for these type questions..I got 3-4  age related problems.

A women has some gloves and hats..she has 15 red,37 yellow and 47 white colored  gloves in a box.(then some lines just to distract..As there is no light,  how many minimum no of gloves should she pick so that she has a pair of each  color.

A farmer buys a horse for Rs 9 in 2003.(some essay.) and decides  to sell it at Rs 19 in 2006.(.)he again invests in purchase of  horse by purchasing it at Rs 27 in 2009 and selling it t Rs 39 in 2010..what  is the average profit made.

If the ratio of ages of father and son is 6:5 , when will the average of their  ages be 8:7 if the sum of their ages is 44.this question is very simple but  contained a lot of unwanted data which is skipped here.

A girl tries to build a building of 100 cc with 5 cc,4 cc and 2 cc blocks..how many  minimum number of blocks will be required to construct a building of (some given  dimension)....

One crape cloth piece of 57 inch length is be cut make........the tailor then  decides to use 8 cms long and 12 cms wide instead of crape cloth piece..Minimum  how many such pieces will be required...

one scale 10cms wide is kept.another scale of 14cms width is overlapped on this  scale. Then the scale of width 10 is placed adjacent .
Again the 14cms scale is overlapped....so on and so forth....How many scales are  required to make a combined width of 52cms in the same fashion....

Then there was a simple logical question on directions..A man travels 20 kms  west then takes a right n goes 7 kms....He takes a right again n travels 20  kms..and moves straight for another 8 kms....find the distance he came from his  original position...

Some questions regarding series completion and volumes and cisterns was asked..

The results of the aptitude were announced soon and out of the ~380 students  who gave the aptitude only 35 were selected for the Technical Round.

Technical Interview:
TR: Hello ..
Me: Hello sir

TR: Tell me something about yourself?
Me: (told)

TR: What was your final year proj..?
Me: (told)

TR: What is the reason for your low percentage..(an expected question)
Me: (told " please don't lie here as the interviewer's r smarter than us. sir  was in fact impressed by my  honest answer.)

TR:  What languages did you learn in col..
Me: c.c++,java,

TR: What is diff bet java and C++?

TR: Why do we prefer object oriented languages? Advantages and disadvantages of OO  lang..
TR: what is segmentation n paging? Types of segmentation.

Where is a program stored?

What is cache and RAM/ROM.?

WAP to generate diff combination of 3 distinct characters without  repetition.(in any lang)

Concepts of overloading, polymorphism ,inheritance and threads was asked.

Management Interview:

I had my MI and TI together..for my MI I was asked all routine questions..
Tell me ur strengths and weakness..

Do u knw whts going on in IT industry..recent activities in IT sector..
Whyy should I hire u?

What do u knw abt TCS? Why do u want to join this company..Will any other company  besides TCS do..? Do you have facts and figures to support your arguments?

Do you have any of your acquaintances in TCS?
Where do you see yourself 5 years later..?

Are you ready to relocate?Veg/Nonveg...... etc etc
After this was a complete nail biting tension of TI+MI results.....Some 25 mins  later i was taken for HR round.

HR Round:

This was the best interview..all similar questions.....gave a puzzle to  solve....asked about diff languages i knew..was made to speak in a few of them..  :) sir was very lenient and hence i din have any sort of uneasiness..  Few  hours later at around 6:30pm,our results were announced and my happiness knew no  bounds when my name was called and everyone around clapped..

Out of 380+ who appeared for aptitude, 35 qualified for the TI and finally  after all rounds, only 11 were selected on the second day at Nagpur...I am  proud to be among them. Very happy to join TCS family.

Later I was called for HR
Tata Consultancy Services - Rajam, Srikakulam, November 4, 2012

Hi, My name is Sriram from GMR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY .

I Know the tension we have before attending an interview. This is the experience of my first interview .I am very Happy to share this with you.

First of all, I would like to tell you that confidence is the only key.

Top 5 persons have NO written test.so,I have direct way to interviews. Also, for the first 25 members Both technical and MR were conducted at a time. So, we have TR+MR and HR .

I waited since a long time from 5 pm to 10 pm and for each person he is taking minimum 50 min. so finally my turn came at around 10 pm.

Before going into the room I feel tensed. But once I entered they are really experienced in making you feel comfortable. There is No single moment in my interview where I felt tensed.

I went into the room and I spotted two interviewers and greeted them.

ME: Gud evng sir.
INT1 : Ha, sriram
Me : yes sir.
INT1 :How are you doing.
Me: fine sir..
INT1:Anything about yourself ( He is observing my resume )

Me : Myself sriram,I learned a lot from my surrounding people.my father is the first person to encourage my every aspect.that gives me confidence.(started with school life and ended with engg.)

INT1 : what is your biggest achievement? (This time he fully scanned my resume )

Me: once hod mam asked me to explain something to all d students(flash)(continued that for 2 min). That is my greatest achievement

INT1:Being an ece student why tcs??

Me: Sir, IT provides global services anywhere .once if you enter into core industry you have to stick to that once but IT can provide solution to any organization. Moreover In TCS is also more concerned with comm., that is the main reason.

INT1: Do you know assembly lang??

Me: Yes sir..i also used it in my mini project

INT1:can you explain that program logic.

Me:Actually, I don't know much about the logic. But I found that the interview has very less knowledge on electronics. So, I explained it for nearly 10 mins.

INT1: What are the recent technologies in software?

Me: confused with the question.. ledtv, augmented reality.

INT2: Uou are telling about your core trends. Anything related to software ?

Me: biometric..

INT2: yes, u r right. Do you know, how it works.

Me:Explained how we are using this in our hostel while going for out pass .the way we are using in college for faculty attendance purpose.

INT2: He smiled and asked. So every day you have permission to go out from hostel and rome in rajam?

Me : There is no place to rome in rajam. We harld go outside and that to for restaurant only.(He smiled). Then he explaine about how biometrics works(Nearly 10 min)

INT2:Do you know any programing lang?

Me: C, basics of Java

INT1: What are loop control statements?

Me: for, while

INT1: What is diff btw while and do while?

Me:I explained the diff between for and while ,then he interfered and asked again to the the diff btwn while and do while.

Me : Told something like one is entry controlled loop and another is exit controlled loop.

INT1:what are the control statements you know?
Me:if ,switch

INT1:can you write program for to print 3 2 1 /n 3 2 /n 3

Me:written and explained

INT1:write any prog using if .

Me:I wrote biggest number among three again I told I have a simple logic for that
( A>B ? ( A>C ? A:C ) : ( B>C ? B :C ) )

INT2:Very good.what are your areas of interest?

Me:Image processing, signal processing

INT1:Again you r telling core, anything related to software?

Me: No subject in specific but I want to learn java..

INT1:you mentioned that u know web-designing..what do u know??

Me: I don't know coding but I can design a website using dreamweaver

INT2:ok,Its actually an application for designing ok..what is your main project ?

Me:It is used to reduce radiations coming from cell towers by minimizing peak power to average power ratio.(I know that they have very less knowledge on ece,so I continued without any interference.)

INT2:How would you like to implement this in real time??

Me : I thought for a while and I gave one line answer,We just strated d project 15 days ago.so No idea

INT2:what will you do from morning to night..

Me: Explained.

INT2: Do you have anything to ask?

Me:what things we have to learn to compete with cse people in It sector

INT2: Java, oracle. He explained this for 10 min nearly. He told nearly 15 to 16 topics and I was happy at that time bcz he responded will to my ques. I remembered c, java, oracle, dbms, php.

INT1: Thank you Sriram. You can leave, All the best.

Thank U sir. In a hurry I took the rough sheet with me and I left my file there. But I realized it in very next second and immediately gave that sheet to him (He is busy in writing feedback about me.) Thank you. Hey,Take your file.Oh..Thank you sir(A funny incident).

Come out of the room and I waited outside and observing him. He has written something on my form for about 5 mins.(OMG !!!). Then a person came and told that YOU ARE IN. Aaa..Very Happy at that time. And its nearly 11.30 and they told that HR is t around 8.30 the next day.

Along with 52 other students i am also selected for TCS . Now I am TCSECEIAN :)

Tata Consultancy Services - 9th and 10th November, 2012

Hello Everyone. I am Amrita Bhattacharyya, pursuing B.Tech in CSE from Birbhum Institute of Engg. & Technology. Recently TCS visited in our campus for the recruitment on 9th and 10th November, 2012.
There were 3 rounds in this overall selection procedure

1. Online Aptitude (30 ques, 80 mins)
2. Technical round
3. HR round

This year the total selection procedure (especially aptitude ques patterns) was quite different and little bit harder than the previous ones. Only 21 out of 219 students from our college got selected in aptitude test and combining with Top 5s from all the departments, total 46 students appeared for the Technical and HR interview. Finally 24 students got selected by TCS from our college. Luckily I was one of the selected candidates and I would like to share my interview experience with you all :)

As I was among top 5, so directly selected for the Technical and HR rounds and it was quite like this.

ME: May I come in Sir (with a pleasant smile)
TR: Yes
ME : Thank you sir.

TR: Amrita, please sit down and introduce yourself
ME: Gave my intro and they were satisfied (friends, please be specific and don’t take so much time to describe yourself. U can mention some important achievements or activities done by you).

TR1: So, U have learned C, Java right? Which programs have u done?
ME: mentioned around 6-7 important programs which I could able to remember at that time.

TR1: OK. Write the program of Fibonacci series and explain the logic.
ME: Wrote the program and Explained.

TR1: (satisfied) Any other programs ?
ME: Explained 2-3 programs.

TR1: Do you think, C++ has any advantage over C ?
ME: Yes sir, Of course.

TR1: How?
ME: Explained.

TR1: What is data abstraction?
ME: Told.

TR: Give me some real life Examples of Object and Class.
ME: Told .

TR: What is DBMS? Explain.
ME: Explained (Try not to give only definition..give some real life applications or advantages of it).

TR: What is the difference b/w DBMS and RDBMS?
ME: Explained and they were satisfied (by their face)

TR: What is Join operation in DBMS?
ME: Told.

Now, there was another TR who took my project file and asked ,
TR2: So, is this project completed and worked already?
ME: Yes sir, its completed and worked successfully.

TR2: Which portion have you done?
ME: Told.

TR2: So, U must have ideas about tables and queries..
ME: Yes sir, I think.

Another interviewer took a paper and drew 2 tables,
TR1: Now tell me how would you find subject wise marks of student 1 in an ordered manner from maximum to minimum, joining this two tables?
ME: ( This time I had to think for a while as I was not prepared so much this time for the join operations and at that moment I couldn't recall max to min) I tried to write the query as per I could recall those.

TRs: (they looked at my query) Its almost done..just try for a while.
ME: (I tried for a while) And I was very near to the solution.

TR: Its OK.Leave it .
(It doesn't matter if u completely solve some questions or not..they were looking at my attitude if I am trying or not. So try your best to solve if possible and keep confidence)
TR: what is normalization? Why we need it?
ME: Told.

TR: Do you think these two tables are normalized?
ME: No sir, its not.

TR: Then normalize these tables.
ME: Again got a little strike but I tried to solve that.

Now they asked something totally related to my project which I answered correctly.
In this interview, 3 panels were in front of me. 2 techs. and 1 HR( in the same table) and the HR and technical questions were asked simultaneously.(like rapid fire :D) but for better understanding, m writing it differently. The questions were:
-> Introduce yourself
(It would be better to make an eye contact not only while introducing but also throughout the whole interview)
-> What are your hobbies?
(be ready to face everything related to your hobby because they ask various questions regarding your interest. Like, for mine, singing, then which type of singing, something regarding my music sites or reading novels, then which type of novel..then describe some of them, if its reading newspaper, then don’t forget to go through today’s headlines..etc).

-> Why would you like to choose IT industry?
-> Why TCS? (most common)
-> Have you any problem with relocation?
-> Have you any problem with night shifts if some day works extend?
-> Do you have any queries?

(Asked about two projects undertaken by TCS because I was interested to know something about those)

MR: OK thanks Amrita :)
ME: Thank you very much Sir. :)

My interview was for around 45 mins. All of us were waiting eagerly to know the result. Finally they came to announce it at about 7 p.m, 24 students were selected from our college and thanks to God! That I was among them! :)

It was totally a different day of my life and to all who were along with me. All I can say is that, be confident and try to keep calm and cool attitude throughout the interview. Their behaviour was very friendly (believe me they are human too and not a thing of panic or any alien what we sometimes think . :D). So, all the best to all who is going to appear for the interview and thanks to all for reading this :) hope it will help u a little.
Thank you.
-Amrita

Tata Consultancy Services - Bhubaneswar, 30 September 2012

Students having career 75% were called for direct interview.
Students having career 60% and above have to pass through a written test.

Written test was for 80min n there were 30 questions in total.
Cut offs were not disclosed but it was around 18-20.
There were no technical questions. Only quantitative aptitude was there.
Questions were not very tough. Just have a look at RS Aggarwal book or any other aptitude book , you will easily get through it.
About 840 students appeared for the test. Over 550 cleared the test.
Next was interview process.

There were different panels , having three persons in each panel.
It was basically HR , TECh, MR  interview altogether. Even some of the students were called for one to one tech interview and later they were called for hr and mr round.

So , coming to what were the questions asked in the interview.
I went to a panel of 3, all the people ( a lady hr and two gents)
Question 1: Tell me about yourself
Question 2: (with a gentle smile)Are you  100% honest ??(as i told in my strength )
Question 3: what are ur favorite subjects?
     ans:          I told C , Java , OS.
Question 4: What do  you mean by Multithreading in java?

Tata Consultancy Services - Hyderabad, October 31, 2012.

Hi, Friends.

I'm Kishore  frm University of Hyderabad doing M.C.A final year. First of all thanks for your interest to learn about experience of the snrs that makes your 50% succeess.

TCS Visited my campus on 30, Oct, 2012, and this time it took very less number as TCS is in crisis, the number is 7(33 in the last year) .

Now let us come to Interview process as u all know the TCS interview is of 4 rounds,
Written Test is a bit tough.. another three rounds TR,MR,HR its of Average.

Written Test : Practice well all arithmetic questions from R.S.Agarwal aptitude.

TR : Basics of OS, DBMS, Software Engineering, Networks,DS. A bit confidence on one of these subject that must be your Area of Interest.

MR and HR : Confidence about you, dont bother about communication, its no longer valid until you have some thing to express. and use your common sense to answer the question in a polite manner, which doesnt show ur attitude.

First round after written:
TR :

ME : May I come in sir,
TR : Yes, Take ur seat (after come into the room).
ME : Thank you sir.

TR : Tell me about ur self.
ME : told.

TR : What is your interesting subject
ME : Operating system and DBMS concepts.

TR : What is Deadlock?
ME : Told (not like a defination)

TR : Write a query in sql that can cause Deadlock and refine ur query which avoid the dead lock.
ME : I got clarity about question after I ask him for explain your requirement for query (I have tried a minute as I have a confident that i can do it.)

TR : How many tables u require for doing this? (while i'm trying on the paper with a single table schema)
ME : I said confidently that single table is enough i'm trying to make this table resource busy with more than one process to bring system into deadlock state.

TR : Ok, carry on.
ME: i wrote the query which does update as well as retrieves same time using sub  query and explained syntax may not be correct but the logic i told.(He accepted my logic as well as avoiding mechanism.)

TR: write a query to delete a record from a table where the attribute 'total' is max?
ME : Wrote.

TR : Change the query to delete second maximum.
ME : tried and told the logic .

TR : IS using a rowid correct thing?(as my logic of prev question involves the rowid)
ME : No, using surrogate key is not preferable, in general DBA has to take prevention to maintain correct normalization to avoid these kinds of problems based on the requirements (as I don't know why its not preferable I extended my answer to what I know i.e Normalization concept. in fact I expected the next question from TR.)

TR : What is Normalization (I'm so happy that my interview is now on my track)
ME : told.

TR : What is anomaly?
ME : told.

TR : What is good whether to normalize or demoralize the database schema?
ME : told (includes my clarity about normalization)

TR : What is page replacement algorithm?
ME : told (strategy of the algorithm)

TR : What is the name of this algorithm?
ME : sorry sir, i could not able to recollect the name(as i tried 30 sec)

TR : Are you from govt. school and colleges ? (with unbelievable expression)
ME : Yes sir!!

TR : ho! what is your father? (May be my MR round start from this question as i directly went hr round after this round)
ME : He is a former.

TR : Ok, then why don't you help your father why did you studied by struggling up to now.
ME : He never feel my education struggled him, and my brother is working in Kuwait in a oil company and helping my family financially and my family feel really happy if i'm in a big position in my future, that hope gives me lot of energy to work hard and seek knowledge to full fill my family desire.

TR : Thank you kishore, Do you have any question to ask me?
ME : sir, I have studied in the forum using surrogate key ex: rowid is not preferable and i also answered to you. may i know the reason sir?

TR : He explained me as industrial manner saying some reasons.
ME : K sir, Thank you.

After 4 hours i directly called for HR, before me there are 4 students went they all are saying he z so arrogant and it is the elimination panel, but still i dint loose my confidence as my TR/MR was done nicely.

ME : Excuse me sir. May i come in ?
HR : Door is already open man and i m free only why r u asking me permission.

ME : I don't care his words as i know he is in angry mood, Good Evening sir!

HR : Sit down.
ME : Thank you sir.

HR : R U from Rajahmundry?
ME : No, sir my village is near to rajahmundry its seethanagram, 23km far from Rajahmundry.

HR : Which movie have you watched recently ?
ME : Brothers (a Tamil movie dobbed in Telugu).

HR : Explain the story?
ME : I started with description of movie

HR : I don't want your comments on movie i want the story
ME : K, sir ( trying to explain the story)

HR : What is the product name in that movie.
ME : I said its ENERGY ION

HR : Ok, Carry on.
ME : continuing story

HR : interrupted me and ask me which year that Olympic games held in that movie?
ME : I said the main competition between USA and Russia but the year not mentioned.

HR : Is it not mentioned or u don't know?
ME : no sir I dint observe the year in the movie (accepted mistake frankly)

HR : I have watched in the last night it was 1924
ME : k, sir.

HR : when did you watch this movie?
ME : 15 days back. (he got a call and talked in Tamil then I understood that he is a tamilian)

HR : Ok, you dint tell this point and that point like 3 points he posed on me about the movie.
ME : I accepted politely my mistakes and saying that for expressing some point I dint get the word.(in this way I cover my mistakes.)

HR : Ok, is it your first interview?
ME : Yes sir.
HR : You can leave.
ME : Thank you sir.

On next day results came among 19 students who went for HR 7 shortlisted and I'm the one student in that list.

I would like to suggest you one thing be confident on your self. feel interview as discussion between you and interviewer so use the terminology what you know so can drive your interview in your way.

All the best to all of You.!!

Tata Consultancy Services - Dr B C Roy Engineering College, Durgapur,16th & 17th October

Hello friends.I am Rupak Dey, pursuing my B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering from Dr. B C Roy Engineering College, Durgapur. TCS came in our college on 16th & 17th of October & I am one of those selected candidates in TCS from our college. Now I would like to share my overall placement experience for all of you.

TCS selection procedure consists of a total of 4 steps.
1.Online Test
2.Technical Interview
3.MR Interview / GD (MR & GD are different. For some student MR & for some GD is conducted)
4.HR Interview

Online Test consists of 30 questions(80 mins time).Questions were little bit hard. TCS has fully changed their question pattern.New types are different from the previous ones by a large scale. You need to practice at your best.Refer R S Agarwal books for quantitative & reasoning. Search in Google for some free online mock exams for TCS and practice those. Collect new placement papers & prepare those. You can also refer to the aptitude & reasoning portion of indiabix.com and many others.

For technical portion go through your departmental subjects carefully & also make your doubts clear. You need to have a clear & deep conception about your subjects.

You can refer the Technical interview portions from indiabix.com if u are a CSE student. TCS interviewers my ask you simple basic questions or hard questions. But at least prepare yourself the best in two of your departmental subjects & in C or data structure. In the technical interview they will ask you your favorite subject & you will have to face a lot of hard questions from those.

In the MR round they may ask some technical question, some managerial questions, some hr questions also. It totally depends upon them.

HR round is very cool in TCS. Don't get tensed.Be cool, confident. They ask questions about yourself, your achievements, goals, mentality. One question they generally ask is that ARE YOU EASY TO RELOCATE?.Dont lie to them.If u dont know any answer them simply tell them that u dont know.Dont make them irritated & make yourself & your words interactive.

Just prepare at your best,be cool & confident and u will be able to crack TCS.

The online test was started in our college at around 10 am.As there was many students so test was taken in 3 batches.Around 400 students sit in the online test.Of them only around 76 cleared the test.Result was announced at 6 pm.There was also 25 top 5 students who was called for direct interview.

TCS - Bhopal, October 12, 2012

Interview experience:

Hi.
This is Nishank goel.

And wants to share my interview experience with you which helps you to get placed in your dream company. So please be prepare before you call for an interview take the help of internet and of-course this website (this website help me a lot to get placed in TCS. Clearly say thanks for those experience and tricks which I get from this indiabix.com)in aptitude

first of all prepare yourself for aptitude (in aptitude or written round each company having there specific topic which you search according with the help of previous paper and remember don't waste your time in preparing the topic which they don't ask in exam )

Aptitude round is much easier if u prepare well

One thing which is mostly every good student done in exam is that he attempt all the ques. correct that is also the reason of "overcut off" always some question ppr to average limit not attempt all the ques. attempt only those question in which u r sure =D don't attempt the ques. in which u r in dough and before going for aptitude please also give some online mock test which helps you to reduce your heartbeat at the time of exam and also reduce your chances of silly mistakes

Now as u clear the written then the next step is your technical round then your HR round then if u perform not well in the above two round only then u get call for MR(managing round) otherwise 2 round id enough for them to check you

Don't get hesitate or nervous this is natural to every one but control on it is not a typical task this can also be done by practice or meditation

OK as i clear the aptitude round then the next day at 13 Oct they call us for the technical or HR round

In technical they simply focus on your language skill and your project work and internship training so clear the basics of all these

As in my resume I have written the C language so they ask me to write the program of Fibonacci series (mug up the simple program of C if u mention the C language whether u r CS or any other stream) then comes the subject work which I mention the database which is also my favorite subject they as me to write the query on SQL how to create alter and modify the table in database they simply ask you DBMS ,ORDBMS and RDBMS or normalization so clear all these topics then they comes to CN which i mention in my resume they ask me simple ques on CN which is types of CN and why we use networking..

Don't be quite say something which u know about the topic they just want to judge how you smartly done the work

Be loud so that the HR becomes able to listen what you are saying

Then comes my HR round

In HR , he ask me

Tell me about yourself

Then prepare a brief and precise a intro of yourself and prepare well in front of mirror you can also help your friend to take interview of yourself so that u know the mistake of your and you will work on it also take the help of your mobile phone by making the video of your and check your mistake

Once you start giving the intro if somehow u will stop then cover your 10th and 12th per. and family detail this will proof to be a good intro of 3-5 min which makes a good impression on interviewer

Then he ask some personal info of your tell each and every things

It is not necessary to be a true person just modulate your answer accordingly in front of him the only thing you have to do is to impress the HR so that he purchase you at any cost in which your study part is not matters

IN the MR round he simply ask for some tricky or crazy ques which is of just to check you so don't get angry in giving the answer to that question

You have to only open all the ways to answer that ques HR will not expect you to give the exact ans to the ques but he only wants you to expect that how you better give idea to a problem if you are in the situation

Remember one thing that he is the person comes in your life to reduce your tension and offer you job so if he ask something which is person then don't get angry on him he just want to check how u manage the things if it comes on your personal life. just enjoy the interview with great fun definitely you will get in this is my personal experience says thanks for spending a good time to prepare yourself for the campus round

This info is better to get you into a good MNC's

Spend time to groom yourself for campus :)

ME: thank u sir...(and left the room).

I waited for my MR round and the co-ordinator called my name.

ME: Gm  sir (smiled)
MR: Gm (smiled too)

ME: No sir

HR: OK, thanks.

Friends, my HR round was like quiz round..you can expect any sort of questions out there...u should b prepared for that and I thought that HR round is to check your general knowledge.

Finally results were announced at 10 PM and my name was in the list...only 60 were selected out of 300 students.

They said that...in order to b placed in TCS...u should b strong in your fundamentals and in your communication skill and u should be able to map your knowledge to real life examples and you should be able to ans situational questions.

I am a CS student...so for CS guys they can ask questions from any of the core subjects that u studied from 1st sem. so be prepared for all subjects.

However there is a concession that whose ever percentage is above 75 (CGPA-8.25), are exempted from written exam. As mine is above cutoff I was sent to TR directly. So I will try to share you my interview experience.

There were about 300 students who were directly eligible to TR.  There was no PPT in our college as it was done months back. About 15 panels conducted the interview process. I was called within an hour to the interview. I was in fourth panel. Interestingly there were 4 members before me. I calculated the time for each student when they entered the room, it was about 25 mins each. By the time my name was called it was lunch for them. So I was asked to take lunch and then come. Meanwhile a mam who is managing  the process told me to prepare carefully, as the interviewer is having 19 years of experience in  TCS. He is very strict. SO my fears increased max level.

After Lunch:

Me: May I com in sir.
INT: Cme in.(There were 2 members in the panel). Are u Sree?
Me: yes sir, Gud afternun mam,gud after nun sir. ( In tense moment I lost my control and tend to sit in chair before they asked to).
INT: No problem you can hav ur seat.
Me: Thank U sir.
INT: Had ur lunch?
Me: No mam. After this i would.
INT: No problem u can hav ur lunch and come. We will be waiting.
Me: No problem sir, I will complete my interview and hav it.
INT: No problem TCS will wait for U, you can hav ur lunch and then come back.
Me: I had biscuits sir....
INT: OK, your wish
INT: Tell me about yourself.
Me: Told..but  not in order in which it should be..I tod in bits and pieces due to tension.
INT: Are u interested in IT?
Me: yes mam.
INT: Why?
Me: I think mechanical also has a major role to play in IT. SO.....(a minute of silence).
INT: Which language do you know?
Me: C mam.
INT: Ok, Tell me about different datatypes.
Me: told
INT: How many loops are there? Explain each.
Me: Told.
INT: What is the purpose of while in do-while statement?
Me: told.
INT: Expalin it on paper.
Me: Explained
INT: Can u write a program?
Me: Yes sir.
INT: Write a program similar to fibonnaci series (but with three numbers)
Me: Wrote and explained the logic.
INT: Ok, You can leave.
Me: tHANK u mam,sir.

At around 7'O clock I was called for HR. ( In some panels TR and MR are done simulataneously, mine is one of them)

Me: may I come in sir. (Only 1 interviewer)
HR: Yes. Are u Gopi?
Me: No sir, I am Sree.
HR: Ok MR.Gopi, go and close the door.
Me: Sorry sir, I am Sree.
HR:  K Sree, go and close the door.
HR: What are your intrests in IT?
Me: Application development and maintainance.
HR: OK, Tell me about urself.
Me: Started, as I reached to my project works,he interrupted me.
HR: In ur resume u mentioned ' Reading Books' as ur hobby. What is the book that u read recently
Me: Attitude is everything by Jeff Keller.
HR: Before that?
Me: What young India Wants by Chetan Bhagat.
HR: What young India want?
Me: Told the brief summary of book.( About change in politics and education system).
HR: So why don't u go and join politics if you want India change?
Me: Sir, I am not intrested in politics, also I don't think only by joining in politics we can change the country.
HR: o u say that u don't go but you want India change?
Me: I didn't mean it sir, Acc to my view ' IF I shine India shine' so if everyone thinks in the same way India will change.
HR: Why don't you go and educate people to think in the same manner.
Me: Sir, in my scope I am doing it.
HR: What is ur scope?
Me: Sir my friends,relatives, surroundings..
HR: So u want only ur relatives and friends to be  happy.Wat bout others?
Me: Sir, what i meant was if everyone thinks in the same manner we can cchange entire India.
HR: What did the author finally say?
Me: Sir acc to author, NGO's should educate the illeterate people and make them vote for the right person.
HR: So u go and join NGO and start doing it.
Me: Sir its not necessary to join in NGO, if u can do it here.
HR: Go join a NGO, and come back a fter a year and attend TCS drive.
Me: Sir, I can do the same while doing my job in TCS .
HR: K Sree... ..We ask primary questions to rejected candidates also.  Are u aware of the bond?
Me: Yes sir...
HR: Can u work anywhere?
Me: yes sir.
HR: GO, U can leave.

Results were announced on 27th afternoon and I was happy as my name was in the list... My HR interview was a stress interview. Interviewer almost hammered me, but I kept cool, and was answering him politely. At last while leaving the room I simply stood there a moment and said thanku with smiling face. Many of my friends faced same kind of stress interview in HR. HR round was very tough. many were eliminated there.

All the best friends....!

Tata Consultancy Services - DCRUST, Murthal, Oct 10, 2012

Interview Experience:

Hi Friends.
Few days ago I was among one of you. I got selected in TCS on 10th Oct, 2012. I am a CSE Under-Grad. I have read many of the exp, so I thought why not to write one myself and help the people like me.

I was not having 75%. So, I appeared for online aptitude test. As you all know it has 30 questions and 80 Minutes time.

On 9th Oct TCS gave PPT (Pre-placement Talk). They will tell you Top 10 reasons to join TCS. And Eligibility criteria and you can ask any question. It was around one hour.

Online test started around 12PM. There were some server problems and test for second slot was cancelled and it was scheduled next day on 10th Oct for second slot. My test started in 4th slot around 8:30PM. Questions were repeating from previous slots. From my slot most of student cleared the test. And very few students cleared from first slot. For aptitude I prepared RS Aggarwal.

The pattern was completely new in our college. I attempted sure shot 24 questions out of 30.  I cleared the aptitude test; my name was third in the list. And one of my friends who attempted 25 questions was second in the list. I really don't have any idea if the list was according to the marks or random.  They never reveal cut-off. But they confirmed that cut-off varies from slot to slot. I have collected some aptitude question from my friends also.

Few of them were:
Q.) A 9*9 Sudoku. Find value of 11X+7Y.
Q.) A 3*3 magic square. Find value of Y+Z.
Q. ) Eesha lies on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Usha lies on Thursday, Friday, Saturdays.
Eesha says: Yesterday was one of my lying days.
Usha says: Yesterday was one of my lying day.
What day was it?
Q.) A series of book was published at 7 seven year intervals. When the seventh book was published the total some of publication year was  13,524. First book was published in??
Q.) Some time, work, wages questions was also there.
Q.) One question was based on clock mirror timing. It was something like a women watch time in the mirror. After 20 minutes she reaches her school. She watched time in school clock and realize the difference was 2:30 hours. What was the actual arrival time?
Q.) A pentagon was cut from rectangle and all dimensions of pentagon were given. Find area of pentagon?
Q.) Probability
Q.) Permutation & Combination
Q.) Volume & area

Interviews started around 11AM. There were mainly three interview rounds Technical, MR(Managerial Round), and HR. Not all the students faced three round. It was random. Some faced one/two/three. Some students even faced 4/5 rounds. First they interviewed test waiver students (Top 5 and Above 75%). Technical interview questions vary from person to person. Many of the students were asked to write C/C++/Java programs but not necessary all. My turn came around 3:15PM.
Me: Good After noon mam
TI: Hi.. Take ur seat.
Me: Thank you mam.
TI: how are you?
Me: I am fine.
TI: How was your day?
Me: It's a good day, mam.
(Be careful friends while answering this question. Basically they want to test your patience, your desperation for TCS and your ability to stay calm in spite of so hectic situation. Anyone would have got frustrated, if he/she has to wait for 7 hours. But, it is the time to show that you are still cheerful in spite of such a long wait. This shows that you are really interested for this job.)
TI: Aren't you tired?
ME: not at all, mam.
TI: Since when you are waiting for interview?
Me: from 8AM mam.
TI: What is your favorite subject? (Unexpected question, because most of us think the first question will be "Introduce yourself?")
Me: Computer Network.
TI: What is the difference between Co-axial and Optic-fiber cable?
Me: told.
TI: Why Optic-fiber is faster than Co-axial cable?
Me: told.
TI: What are different methods of information passing?
Me: told.
TI: What are different types of network?
Me: told.
TI: You low score in your 10th, but constantly improved your percentage. How is it?
ME: I have constantly improved upon myself. I always analyze shortcoming or mistakes that I make and I act accordingly.
(Friends be frank about your academics. If you lie, you will be caught. And you are certainly out.)
TI: Have you studied DBMS?
TI: Yes, mam.
TI: What is NOT NULL?
Me: told.
TI: What is Primary key?
Me: told.
TI: What is candidate key?
Me:  told.
TI: What is ACID property of DBMS?
Me: A means Atomicity, C means consistency, I stand for Integrity. Mam, I forgot D.
(If you don't know frankly say "NO". Don't beat around the bush. Many of the students try to make guess just like theory papers. This is a major turn off for the interviewer. If you have read a subject, it does not mean you must know answer of every single question)
TI: She drew two tables on the paper. Asked me to retrieve some data.
add_table:
Emp_no add

Emp_table:
Emp_no Name Salary

(She gave me two queries)
First query was really simple. I need to find out name of employee with emp_no greater than 5 or something.
Second query needed to retrieve a employee address from add table whose name starts from "s".
I asked for some time. I solved the query, but with a little mistake. And when I realized, I tried to write it correctly, but she said this is "OK".
TI: Tell me about your project? (Pointing to one of my projects in resume. I wrote two projects. I suggest you not to write too many projects in your resume. You should write only if you have done it yourself, otherwise it will be very problematic to answer project questions.)
TI: She wrote if p=3 than what will be the value of **p?
Me: told. (But later I found my answer was incorrect).
TI: Ok KUMAR, you may leave. Thank you.
Me: Thank you, mam.
(Keep your answer short and meaningful. Don't give un-necessary explanations. And watch your words. Don't use the technical buzzword if you don't know the meaning.)

After 6PM, I got another call for second round. I really don't know if it was a TR/HR/MR or some combination of both because of the type of questions that were asked.
ME: Good evening, Sir.
HE: Good evening
(He did not ask to take chair. I waited. He said "please sit down")
HE: Tell me about yourself?
ME: told. (Please don't give the details that you have already given in your resume. Tell him the things like what you like, why you like your department, special interests etc.)
HE: What is your favorite subject?
ME: Computer networks.
HE: Can you solve the numerical?
ME: Yes, sir.
HE: What have you read in computer networks?
ME: Sir, I have studied how to connect computers those are spread over varied areas like computer within a campus, within a city and worldwide.
HE: Which topology is implemented in your university?
ME: Hybrid topology sir.
HE: How?
ME: Sir, should I draw a diagram?
HE: yes. (Giving me paper and pen)
ME: I explained everything very well. He asked me several questions about speed at different places and topology in our university.
HE: Apart from college study, how you updated yourself with latest tech trends?
ME: Sir, I regularly visit "tech news" page on "Times of India" website.
HE: Tell me few of them, you have read recently.
ME: I told 2-3 of latest tech news.
HE: Have you read about 1 billion facebook user news?
ME: yes sir.
HE: Do you use facebook?
ME: Yes, Sir.
HE: How many hours?
ME: 1/2 hours.
HE: When you type facebook.com in your browser how it is accessed?
ME: I explained confidently.
HE: What are implications of changing IP Address of a web site?
ME: Sorry, sir I couldn't understand what do you want to ask?
HE: If we change the IP Address of a website what will happen? Can we still access it.
ME: explained. (ACTUALLY I AM GOOD AT NETWORKING, HE REALISED IT AND CHANGED THE SUBJECT IN NEXT QUESTION. BASICALLY THEY WANT TO TEST HOW MUCH PROFICIENT YOU ARE IN YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT. SO, WHEN YOU MENTIONED YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT BE READY TO FACE SOME REAL QUESTIONS. AS YOU SEE IN MY INTERVIEW HE DIDN'T ASKED ANY DIRECT QUESTION FROM BOOK. HE WAS CHECKING MY CONCEPTS AND PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE.)

HE: Have you read Operating System?
ME: Yes, sir (Of course I am a CSE student.)
HE: What is O/S?
ME: told in simple language. (Don't give bookish definition. Just tell him what you understand by O/S)
HE: What are the services of the operating system?
ME: Process management.
HE: What are various process management techniques that you have studied?
ME: Paging, Segmentation, Swapping.
HE: Some more applications of O/S?
ME: File management
HE: What are various file management techniques?
ME: FAT and NTFS (I answered incorrectly. But he didn't interrupt me.)
HE: What is the difference between FAT & NTFS?
ME: Sir, FAT stands for File allocation table it was an older file system which was used on the windows XP and earlier windows. NTFS stands for New Technology File system; it started with Windows vista, 7. (I didn't know the exact range but said it with full confidence.)
HE: What is the difference between these two?
ME: Sir, in FAT individual file size was lesser while NTFS allows much larger size for a file. I don't remember the exact values.
HE: What is OOPS?
ME: Told.
HE: what is template?
ME: Told.
HE: Can we use union in place of template.
ME: No sir.
HE: What is a static function?
ME: I don't know, sir. (I know this was easy one but I was confused at that time, so I decided to say "NO" instead of making some guess.)
HE: What is a structure?
ME: told.
HE: What is Stack?
ME: told.
HE: Diff between stack and heap?
ME: told.
HE: In C language, when you declare an array, from which, stack or heap memory would be allocated?
ME: Sir, please give me few moments.  (I read it once. But I was not able to recall.)
ME: sorry Sir, I am not able to recall it.
HE: What is DBMS?
ME: told.
HE: What is entity?
ME: told.
HE: How you represent an entity?
ME: told.
HE: Have you read about normalization?
ME: Yes, Sir.
HE: Tell me how many types of normalization have you studied?
ME: told.
(Finally he made a decision about my level.)
HE: Ok, KUMAR. What is your long term goal?
ME: Sir, I want to be a recognizable person in my organization. By recognizable I means, whenever we talk about an organization only few people will come into our mind. And I want to be among one of them.
(He was very impressed by this answer and decided to end this session.)
HE: Ok KUMAR. Thank you. You may go.
ME: Thank you.

(This year TCS is asking basic questions from all your major subjects like C, C++, DBMS, CN, OS. In the past year they used to ask questions only from your favorite subject. And also there is no fixed pattern. With some of students it happened that HR was asking technical question and Technical interviewer asking to justify your hobbies.)

After few minutes, I got my HR Call.

ME: Good evening mam
HR: Good evening  take your seat. How are you?
ME: I am good mam.
HR: So, How was your day?
ME: It has been an excellent day, mam.
HR: Are you tired?
ME: No mam, not at all. (Same question was also asked in my Technical and you all know the reason.)
HR: So you are from. (Looking in my resume)
ME: Told.
HR: Who is in your family?
ME: told. (Don't try to make it long. They want to hire you, not your family members.)
HR: Why do you want to join TCS? (Most expected and well prepared.)
ME: Mam, First of all the brand name itself. Everyone knows. There is a social saying in our country "Chappal ho to BATA ki, Job ho to TATA ki" (If you Use slippers it must be of BATA, and job should be of TATAs.) Apart from this I have also consulted with my seniors who are working with TCS. And they have advised me that TCS is the best start for a fresher. And TCS will provide global exposure because it is present across 45 countries. And TCS provides opportunities to work on multiple domains. TCS provides work life balance. (This question is very important. If you want to join any organization you must have some good reasons for that.)
HR: Do you have any gap in education?
ME: No.
HR: You have done diploma. In which subject?  Do you have certificate for it? (Indicating towards my resume.)
ME: Yes mam, I can show you (I tried to open file.)
HR: No, No.  It's Ok.
HR: Where do you see yourself after 4 years? (Again this question is very important. They want to check whether you really have some plan to stay in their company or you will join another company after few years.)
ME: As a project leader or team leader.
HR: Why? You may be a programmer or something else?
ME: I have very good management capabilities. I am working as a training & placement coordinator in Training & placement cell. I call the HRs, invite them to campus, managing campus drive etc. And keep the students updated about latest information. (You must give a reason for your position after 4 years.)
HR: why you decided to go for graduate?
ME: Mam, after diploma I find out there are fewer opportunities for diploma holders. Growth rate is very slow. And college life itself is a fun. Also I want to increase my level of knowledge.
HR: Are you aware of TCS bond and Back Ground check process?
ME: Yes , mam.
HR: Are you comfortable with relocation?
ME: Yes, I am absolutely comfortable. I have been leaving away from my home since last 7 years. I can manage anywhere.
HR: Do you want to share any experience?
ME: No, mam.
HR: Ok KUMAR. Thank you. You can go now.
ME: Thank you, mam.

And finally result was announced 8:30PM. 120 out of 215 who appeared for interviews were selected and I was among one of them.

Interview questions always depend on the person who is taking interview.

For interview, be confident and stay calm and take care of your body language, maintain a good smile, eye contact. Before facing my interview I have always read about these things, and used to think "O my God! This is all nonsense". But believe me all these things exists and they are very important. That's all from my side. Best of luck!

PS: For any grammatical mistakes.

Interview experience

Hello everyone..

I am pursuing B.Tech 4th year from jntu Hyderabad(university), mechanical.

TCS came to our college and took 202 students from various branches all over.
as per my experience interview I definitely say that getting into TCS depends totally on luck.

It started on 15th...had small interaction session with TCS where we were announced that there was no written exam for people having 75% and above..
and also for students who stand amongst top five in their class

On 16th there was written exam for those who were having written. TCS written exam this year was quiet stuff to say..around 460 students appeared and only 113 of them were short listed...cut off was around 17 marks (just guess)

Most of them were eliminated in written only.

On 17th all of those selected candidates had interviews..
1st students without written were interviewed...in our college there were around approx 150-160 people with no written

we were told that all interviews would be done on 17th only...which did not happen because of the crowd.

So people with written exam were interviewed on 18th..BUT INTERVIEWS WERE NOT DONE.

So 19th was holiday...and interviews continued on 20th.. also..

21st results were declared at 2.pm

TCS short lists students after TR&MR...i.e we need to clear this round before going for HR

ass far to my knowledge TCS selects students on spot.

2 interviews were there- TR&MR, HR

In TR&MR 2 people were there...
All my questions asked were from "c" and fav subject and resume- ppts etc

Questions:

SEARCHING, SORTING DEFINITIONS ETC.

ARRAYS FUNCTIONS BASICS.

SOME SIMPLE PROGRAMS HE ASKED ME TO WRITE WHAT I KNOW...LIKE PATTERNS,USING ARRAYS.

AND OTHER QUESTIONS REGARDING MY FAV SUBJECT.

AND MR ASKED HOW WOULD I SELL PIPES TO CUSTOMER?...LIKE HOW WOUDL I CONVINCE N ALL-told.

Asked why it from mechanical...I told that I dint know anything before I joined my course...that what mech was,,,what cse is n all..(big blunder I said like that) .for this

So he told me..that I should have done some research before joining because after all Its my life matter and 4 yrs of my study...so I convinced him by saying some blah blah

I answered all the questions...and

My tr&mr(combined) were done in 20min..while others had interview for 40-45min
I was very much worried for that reason...

After 1hr I was informed that I was selected in tr and was asked to go for hr..

During my HR..

HR looked very simple and was very good to me..

He asked my name etc..saw my resume and TCS application...

Asked about my acads,,..like were etc..

And why TCS...what expectations I have from TCS.

And  why from it being mechanical engineer- I told I was very much interested in software blah blah etc.

How would I react towards my team mate who doesn't show interest in given work

New trends in it- I know only the name...so I told cloud computing...he explained me what it was example regarding my interest in software..i learnt adobe Photoshop...so told about it..

Later asked me about bond...relocation..future studies..etc

And he dint ask anything but I only wantedly told my interests works..etc etc
He was very much impressed with that,,..

And finally my hr was done..he got up gave my a good handshake,,,with a big smiles on his face and on mine too..:)

JUST BE COOL...IF U DON'T KNOW WHAT HE ASKED SAY NO...NO PROBLEM..

No problem if u even get tensed TCS people will definitely cool u down...:):)

So sweet they are,,..

21st results were announced and 202 were selected from around 260-280.

They generally don't eliminated in interview rounds..i.e Where luck depends

Tata Concultancy Services - Jabalpur, September 28, 2012
On-line test comprised 30 questions which were to be done in 80 minutes. Cut-off was around 10 as most of us attempted only 15-22 questions.
There was negative marking of 1 for incorrect answer and positive 1 for correct answer. the test window was the same as the open sesame practice test on next step. tcs website.

40% of the on-line test questions were based on work and time. Others were based on-
1> Time speed distance
2> Logical reasoning
3> Some questions with figures. Answer using logic.
4> Arithmetic progression
5> Permutations and combinations

To be safe one must practice all the important topics like probability, time speed distance, work time, number systems, clocks, calendars ( I got only 1 question from this topic).
Those preparing for CAT will surely clear the on-line test. Others must not rely on R S Agrawal only. They should try solving some questions with higher level of difficulty from CL or TIME packages.

I remember some questions -

Q. There are two employees in a company. One is younger and the other is older. The older employee leaves his house at 10:00 am and walks to the company with a speed of 20 metres per minute. After 5 minutes the younger employee also leaves his home and walks towards office with a speed of 30 metres per minute. When will he meet the older employee?

a> 11:00
b> 10:10
c> 10:15
d> 10:30

Ans.
speed of older = 3o m/min, speed of younger = 20 m/min
in 5 minutes the older employee walks.. ?
distance=speed*time
distance = 20 * 5 = 100 metres
now younger employee will cover 100 metres in..?
t = d/s
t = 100/ 30-20 = 10 minutes
30 - 20 is the relative speed of the two as both of them are walking in the same direction.

so answer is c> 10:15 am.

Q. Car A leaves city C at 5 pm and drives at a speed of 40 kmph. 2 hours later another car B leaves city C and drives in the same direction as car A. In how much time will car B be 9 km ahead of car A. Speed of car B is 60 kmph.

a> 4.25 hrs
b> 4.17 hrs
c> 4.30 hrs
d> 4.45 hrs

Ans.
speed of A = 40 kmph, speed of B = 60 kmph
distance traveled by A in 2 hours..
d = s*t = 40 * 2 = 80 km
distance B must travel to be 9 km ahead of A = 80 km + 9 km = 89 km
Relative speed of A  and B = 60 - 40 = 20 kmph
time taken by B to be 9 km ahead of A : t = d/s = 89km/20kmph = 4.45 hours

answer is d.

Q.
     ___________
    /\       /\       /
   /  \     /  \     /
  /    \   /    \   /
 /___ \/____\/___  ......

a> 43
b> 42
c> 47
d> 45

Using 3 sticks one triangle is formed. If there are 87 sticks. How many triangles with be formed as shown in figure?

Ans.
I coudnt add picture here. So assume that

     /
   /
 /
/  is one stick only. dont consider it as dashed line, considr it to be a stright line.

for forming first triangle we need 3 sticks, for all others we need only two sticks.
so 87 - 3 = 84. using first 3 stickes, 1 triangle is formed. now 84 sticks are remaining.
84/2 = 42 triangles.
total = 42+1 = 43 triangles.

answer- a

Q. how many 5 digit numbers can be formed using the digits 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 if repetition is not allowed.

a>720
b>2160
c>920
d>1150

Ans.
_ _ _ _ _
5 places are there. In first place we can't place 0 as it must be a 5 digit number. if we place 0, it becomes a 4 digit number.
So in first place we can place 6 digits(1,2,3,4,5,6).
In second place we can place 6 digits(0 and the remaining 5 choices)
In third place we can place 5 digits
In fourth 4 digits
In fifth 3 digits

so 6*6*5*4*3 = 2160

Q. There are three teams, A,B,C. The tallest player of A is shorter than the tallest player of B. The shortest player of A is shorter than the shortest player of C. The tallest player of C is taller than the tallest player of B. What can be said with certainty?
a>C has the tallest players
b>The shortest player of B is shorter than the shorter players of C
2 more options of the sort. I dont remember them.

Answer is A.

Q. In how many ways can we select the captain and vice captain of a cricket team from 11 players?

Ans. 11C2. 11!/9!2!

Technical round---

This round was quite unpredictable. There were two interviewers and most of the questions were simple.

I opened the door and asked "May I come in sir?"
The interviewer asked my name and then said come in.
I said "Good afternoon sir" and smiled at both the interviewers.
They said "Good afternoon. Sit down."

They went through my resume and then asked, "So you're favourite subjects are dbms and oops? What is OOPs?"
I gave a basic definition like, "OOPs stands for object oriented programming. In this programmin methodology, our focus is on objects rather than functions. Data and functions that operate on the data are encapsulated into a single unit called class. OOPs is becoming popular because it allows us to model real world problems more accurately and safely than procedural programming."

The interviewer nodded then asked, "What is DBMS?"
Me: DBMS stands for datababse management systems. Database is a collection of interrelated data. The collection of this data and the applications that help store and retrieve this data are collectively called database management systems. They allow us to insert, delete and modify data.

Interviewer: Modify data? How can you modify data?
Me: Using DML commands like update table, alter table, delete.

Interviewer: Write one query to show use of PL SQL procedure.
I got confused as I could not remember the syntax. I hadn't revised PL SQL. So I took pen and stared at paper for a few seconds.

Interviewer: Okay write one query to show all the tables present in database.
Again I forgot the command to show all tables in database.
Me: Sir, I am not able to remember that keyword used to write this query.

Interviewer thought for a minute then said: Okay write any query.
I wrote a simple update query for table employee.
"update employee set salary = 15000 where emp_id = 1001;"

Interviewer: Do you know about networking?
Me: Yes sir.

Interviewer: what is IP address?
Me: it is a 32 bit address which is dynamically assigned to clients when they join the network. This address helps us in identifying the hosts.

Interviewer: So is client server architecture required for this?
Me: Yes sir.

Interviewer: which server will assign IP address?
Me: DHCP server.

Interviewer: Suppose we dont have DHCP server? Now?
Me: Then we'll use a simple server with a network operating system and manually assign the IP address. DHCP server will assign automatically whenever a host joins network.

Interviewer: Okay.
He again went through my resume and said, "So your project is in c++?"
Me: No sir. It's in Java.

Interviewer: Tell me about your project.
Me:I told the name of project, problem statement, number of modules. Platform used - java, backend technology derby apache and IDE netbeans 6.0

Interviewer: Your major training is on network design?
Me: Yes sir.
Interviewer: What is WAN?
Me: Wide area network that spans large areas.
Interviewer: example?
Me: Internet.
Interviewer: LAN?
Me: Local area network that spans smaller geographical areas.
Interviewer: example?
Me: Our college computer lab is an example of LAN.
Interviewer: Is there any other type of network?
Me: Yes sir. MAN - metropolitan area network.

Interviewer: okay now tell me about your background.
Me: I told about my father's occupation. And they cross questioned quite a lot and asked in depth about my father's job.

Finally the interviewer said, "Good. You belong to a good background."

5 minutes after this I was called  for the HR round----

I stepped into the conference room where 10-12 people were sitting on a round table. I got a little nervous but then 7-8 of them moved out of the room immediately.

Interviewer: tell me about yourself.
Me: I told my name, branch, average, high school's name, hobbies.
Interviewer: That's it?
Me: Yes sir.
Interviewer: What about your strengths and weaknesses?
Me: My strength is commitment to work and I'm resilient.
Interviewer: Resilient?
Me: I easily forget failures.
Interviewer: Give me an example of ur failure?
Me: IIT was a failure for me. As I could not clear the JEE. I thought about taking drop but then gave a chance to the other entrance exams. I focussed and worked hard for the other entrances even though IIT was my dream. I did not take drop.
Interviewer: Okay. And what are your weaknesses?
Me: Slow handwriting.
Interviewer: Anything else you want to improve on?
Me: Personality
Interviewer: what in personality?
Me: Posture, body language and communication skills.
Interviewer: Okay, what did you do to improve your personality?
Me: I joined a workshop on personality development. I attended classes there for 2 weeks and have clearly seen a difference. I'm a little more confident now.
Interviewer: okay. Do you know about the bond of TCS?
Me: yes sir.
Interviewer: do you have a problem if we relocate you?
Me: No sir. I love travelling.
Interviewer: you like travelling? Okay, good. Do you plan to leave our company?
Me: It would be an honour to work for TCS as its ranked 1 in India and 7 in the world for providing IT services. I have no plans of leaving.
Interviewer: Do you have any questions?
Me:No sir.
Interviewer: Sure?
Me: yes sir.
Interviewer: Sure?
Me: yes sir I'm sure...
Interviewer: ok now you may leave.
Me: Thank you sir.

I left the room at 2 pm. Results were announced at 12 am. Those that gave only 2 rounds were selected. Some who were called for managerial rounds were doubtful cases. Some of them were rejected. Some even gave 4 rounds but were still selected. So it was all a mystery until night time when I got to now I'm selected.

The aptitude test was mass rejection round. 3/4th of the students were out during this round only.

Good luck to everyone else who's preparing to be a part of TCS.
