Infosys Placement Paper - Hyderabad,
20-Jan-2012
MY EXPIERIENCE:
I'm Sai kiran reddy. I'm pursuing my B.tech from TKR College of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad.
I attended the campus drive for Infosys, which was held on 20th January, 2012 in my college through Jawaharlal knowledge centre. Totally there are 1201 candidates from 25 colleges participated in this campus drive, which were located in Rangareddy, Khammam and Hyderabad districts. Eligibility criteria is 68% or above 68% without backlogs. Not only for Infosys, if you are competing through JKC means definitely you have to compete with more than 1000 candidates. So you should put your maximum efforts to clear the tests.
Placement pattern for Infosys consists of two rounds:
1) Written test
2) HR.
For the written test you should carry one copy of your resume, passport size photograph, your certificates. Before writing the exam they asked you to fill a form which consists of various questions about you like your 12th standard marks (only 12th standard), do u have spouse, backlogs, gaps in education, eye sight, any reference, if you have their name and their position in the company, criminal cases bla bla bla....
This form only takes 30 minutes to complete.
Now let me discuss about the pattern of written test clearly.
1) APTITUDE REASONING TEST: QUESTIONS: 30, DURATION: 40 MINUTES
2) VERBAL ABILITY: QUESTIONS: 40, DURATION: 35 MINUTES
Aptitude reasoning test consists of 6 different topics.
1)PICTURE REASONING (5 questions)
In this section, a series of pictures are given which may consist of picture series, picture analogy or picture classification.Difficulty level for this section is 2/10.
2) STATEMENT REASONING (5 Questions)
In this section, sequence questions like seating arrangement or money distribution or height arrangement are given. A set of five questions are based directly on the statements given.
In the exam which I wrote I got this question like this.
Sai, Rakesh, Mukesh, Raju, Madhu are friends. They went to a sweet shop.
Some conditions given like this.
a) Sai ate 7 laddus less than Raju.
b) Mukesh ate 8 more than Raju.
c) Sai and Rakesh ate 17 laddus together.
d) Mukesh and Madhu ate 28 laddus together.
e) Totally they ate 59 laddus.
So based on this passage they gave questions like who ate more laddus and less laddus etc.... those questions are very easy if you understood the passage carefully. Difficulty level for this section is 3/10.
3) DATA SUFFICIENCY (5 questions)
Here a set of two statements are given followed by 5 options which satisfy the answer for the statements. You have to decide which option best suits the answer.
By studying the syllabus we came to know that there are no aptitude sections like areas, volumes etc... topics, But they included those topics in this topic wisely.
The question I got in the exam is like this.
What is the area of the hexagon?
Statement 1: The side of hexagon is 6cm.
Statement 2: The angle made by a side of hexagon at the centre is 60 degrees.
I didn't remember this question exactly. But what's my intention is just to say if you want to do this question you should know the formula to find out the area of the hexagon, which is related to areas section in quantitative aptitude. So be prepare well...!!
Difficulty level for this section is 7/10.
4) DATA INTERPRETATION (5 questions)
This section consists of a direct sequence of 5 questions based on the data which is provided in the form of table charts, bar charts, pie charts or line charts. The question I got in the exam is in the form table chart. Actually I concentrated mainly on other topics, because I found this question is difficult to understand. To solve this question we should convert the given data, which is in $'s into rupees, they gave the table for only one year and given there will be some percentage increases in the next year. So too many calculations... so I left it means I guessed the answers because we don't have negative marking. Difficulty level for this section is 8/10.
5) RELATION PROBLEM (5 questions)
This section consists of questions which are similar to the sets and relations like students with biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry, mathematics and biology, only physics, etc., and questions related as such.
The question I got under this section is
A, B, C, D, E and F are six members in a family. Some conditions are given like that.
a) A is most talkative person in the family.
b) B is less talkative than C, F.
c) E is more talkative than D, B.
d) There are four males and two females.
e) No one is widow.
f) Most talkative person marries less talkative person etc...
Like this about 10 conditions were given. So based on this we should attempt the questions like who is least talkative? , Among the given pairs, which pair is correct? The gender of C etc. Difficulty level for this section is 8/10.
6) SYLLOGISM (5 questions)
This section consists of statement followed by two conclusions. We need to pick out from 5 options, which suit the best answer.
The questions I got under this section are as follows.
1) All men are cat.
2) All cats are bus.
3) All men are bus.
4) Some men are bus.
5) Some cats are bus.
A) 123 B)324 C)234 D)521
The answer is "A" Difficulty level for this section is 6/10.
The verbal ability test consists of following sections.
1) SENTENCE CORRECTION (8 questions)
Among 4 sentences the correct one should be detected.
Mainly they concentrated on punctuation marks and prepositions. They had given very lengthy sentences. So somewhat time taking but these are easy to answer if you know the grammar well. Difficulty level for this section is 5/10.
2) UNDERLINED A PART OF SENTENCE AND ASKED TO INSERT CORRECT PHRASE IN IT FROM THE GIVEN 4 OPTIONS (8 questions)
In this section they mainly concentrated on tenses and grammar. Here also lengthy sentences. So time taking guys. Difficulty level for this section is 5/10.
3) FILL IN THE BLANKS (8 questions)
The paper setter used this section very efficiently. He asked one question on Idioms and phrases, one question on one word substitutes, one question on tenses, one question on prepositions, one question on synonyms and one question on vocabulary etc. So this section is somewhat difficult....!! Difficulty level for this section is 7/10.
4) THEME DETECTION (6 questions)
This section consists of a 5 to 6 lines paragraph and we select the correct conclusion among four given options. This questions are time taking....!! Difficulty level for this section is 7/10.
5) TWO READING COMPREHENSIONS (10 questions)
A common section in every company's written test is Comprehension passages. Here we have two passages. Those two are lengthy, But easy to understand. The only thing is you should have time to read these passages. My sincere suggestion is do these passages after completing all the sections. Difficulty level for this section is 6/10.
My suggestion is for aptitude reasoning test go through R.S. Agarwal books. Coming to verbal test, for sentence correction Objective English by Hari mohan Prasad is good. But for other sections Objective English by R.S. Agarwal is preferable to Hari mohana Prasad.
The universal cutoff for Infosys i.e., whether it is on-campus or off-campus the cutoff for Infosys written test is 18/30 in aptitude reasoning test and 20/40 in verbal test. That means 60% marks in aptitude reasoning and 50% marks in verbal test. Remember sectional cut-off is there.
The exam was completed at 12.30 pm. They announced the result at 3.45 pm. Out of 1201 they selected only 102 candidates, but they divided these 102 members into 2 batches of 50 and 52 members based on their marks. I got 12th position among all the candidates.
Immediately they asked all the selected candidates to come for HR round. Again they gave a form to fill the semester wise B.tech marks. Here they ask one copy of your resume and also sometimes your memos. But they didn't ask me. Why means if your percentage is about 68 or slightly greater than 68, then only for verification purpose they ask the memos. I have an aggregate of 74%. So they didn't ask me. After this I was asked to come for HR round. Every HR is of at least 40+ age. They are very friendly... The only thing you should remember is we should not be nervous....!!
Here I'm explaining my Interview experience.
HR: How are you?
ME: Very fine sir, what about you?
(Don't be afraid to ask the HR "how are you sir?" It gives an impression that you are friendly, jovial. And also we know that first impression is best impression)
After that he asked about my personal details etc...
HR: What are the problems did you face in your mini project? Your role in mini project?
ME: Explained...
HR: Under the skills you have written some words like Self-learner, Creative and Effective team player. Can u please explain?
ME: Explained...
HR: Why you got less percentage in 3-2 than other semesters?
ME: until 3-1 I mainly concentrated on my studies sir. But in 3-2, I thought that after this semester I have to appear for the campus interviews and the companies like you require not only studies but also extra circular activities. So in that semester I gave some PPTS and I made a short film also. I learned video editing myself for that movie. So I got less percentage. But in 4-1, definitely I'll get good percentage sir.
HR: Do you play games? (Because I mentioned I'm a district player in badminton and volley ball in my resume)
ME: Yes sir, because my father is a physical director so I used to play those games.
HR: Do you have any questions for me?
ME: May I know your name sir....
HR: We shouldn't tell our name boy...!!
ME: Actually why I asked means sir whether I was selected or not I want to upload my experience into some websites like Indiabix.com etc... So that it will be helpful to someone, who is willing to join in your company.
(So that the HR came to know that the student has helping nature towards others)
HR: Of course, you can upload. But we shouldn't tell our names boy.
ME: Thank you very much sir...!
I completed my interview at 4 pm. Results are announced at 8 pm. 75 members got selected out of 102 members. I got second position in the list.
My suggestions for you to get succeeded in the Infosys campus recruitment process is
1) Written test is very very important. In that also mainly concentrate on Verbal test. If you completed the written test successfully, you have more chances of getting a job.
2) While doing verbal test paper in written test you don't have time to revise it, so be fast...!!
3) While performing the interview you should remember the following things. Eye contact, tone should be louder, don't place your hands on the table, while saying something you can move your hands freely, don't say one word answers, try to explain the answer clearly.
4) If you ask a wrong question or unnecessary question also, try to say why you asked that question, what's your view behind that question? like what I said for the last question in my interview experience.
Don't be nervous. I came from Telugu medium. But medium doesn't play any role only hard work plays.
Remember this quotation : "If you are excited, you are going to learn something; but if you are nervous, you are going to lose everything".
Have faith on you.
Be confident and All the best..!!
Thank you...!!

On 26th September we had
infosys placement which is a pool drive consisting of three colleges and there
were about 700 members. I felt very nervous after seeing the crowd. Our
reporting time was 8.00 a.m and eligibility criteria was 68% candidates having
less than 68% were not allowed to write written even if You have 67.99% because
one of my friend had 67.83% and was not allowed. We were informed to have a
pre-placement talk but due to some reason at 10 pm we were sent to write the
written test.the written test followed same pattern .two papers were given to
us
- Logical
and Reasoning
- Verbal-English
First we were to solve
analytical and reasoning paper consisting of 30 Question to be solved in 40
mints. Then these papers were collected and verbal paper was given which
contained 40 Question to be solved in 35 min and were collected . The
analytical and logical reasoning Question were from verbal and non verbal
reasoning by R.S.Agarwal. There were Question on pick the odd figure out
(very easy), 2 puzzles (very easy but time taking), syllogism (also easy), data
sufficiency very easy needs simple preparation from quantitative by
R.S.Agarwal), data interpretation (easy and lengthy .a table was given and 5
Question were asked on it)
Coming to the second paper
Verbal (not easy) but
models were from objective general English by R.S.Agarwal.the questions were on
following sections
- Choose
any correct sentence(4 of same options were given with little changes and
we have to choose appropriate one) about 8ques were given.
- Correct

passage(8 Question were given)

I must admit all Question
were relatively easy. R.S. Agarwal is more than enough for preparation. Time
Management is also not a major issue. But problem was it had sectional
cut-offs which were quite high. Tho they officially didnt mention it, we
believe 15 was the sectional cut-off. 312 sat for the exam and 226 cleared the
apti!
2. Non Technical Interview
(N.B There is a reason I'm
writing non-technical interview and not HR interview! Because Infosys said HR
is not a type of interview but a type of post and people making this mistake in
the interview was eliminated)
The HR Managers were very
friendly and helping. they did their best to remove our tension and make us
feel relaxed. The only parameter on which they were judging was communication
skills.
Question ranged from Tell
us about yourself, your family, your goals, what is needed to be successful in
the IT industry, why do you feel you can be successful, what are the areas you
need to improve to be more successful and finally are you ok with Relocation or
not!
Guys let me tel you they
are not interested in your ans at all but merely checking how fluently and
confidently your speaking!
Moreover reaching the
interview round means 99% job guaranty! Out of 226 people, 219 got selected and
I'm one of them! Hoping to see you all in Mysore

Aptitude is quite easy and
verbal need a little bit hard work. If your are a regular English news paper
reader you will never bother about that. In aptitude we have to solve figures
find out, data interpretation ,data sufficiency , syllogisms and 1 paragraph
will be given n we have to solve the followed questions. when coming to verbal
it demands a little bit skills in English we have to solve
sentence correction ,filling the blank space with appropriate word, we have 2 big passages and followed by questions (one tip to solve these ,choose the appropriate one means one passage deals with general and interesting topic and other one is a little bit confusing one , go to questions to passage approach (it would save 1 r 2 minutes time )) try to make maximum score in this passage section because in verbal cutoff would be 24 out of 40 so try to best use of your time friends .

Job Interview, Question Paper
Hi Friends
I attended Infosys off
campus through Anna university..
First we had our written test it has both analytical and verbal. Analytical is very very easy, but verbal is comparatively tough. But those who have prepared with Agarwal verbal reasoning can crack the exam.
In that I have selected. But most of the candidates are eliminated in this round only.

Infosys - Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, 16 September
2012
I
was appeared for the Infosys Test on 16 September 2012. Company visited at my
college. We were all so excited because every year company selects 200-250
students from Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College. We all study hard for the
aptitude test.
Finally the day came when Infosys visited our college. There were so many rumours about rescission and everyone wants to know how many candidates infosys would be selected. College assures us that company would also do bulk hiring this year Morning 16 September 2012.
We all gathers at main hall at 9AM. There were around 350 students (B.Tech + MCA). Company announce about the Online Test to be held in four batches. Before the Online test there was a pre placement talk in which HR announced terms and conditions including salary packages.
They announced:
Salary Package:3.25 P.A for MCA and B-Tech (CS+IT+EC+EN).
3.5 P.A for B.Tech (Mechanical).
A handful of Stipend during Training at Mysore campus. They discuss about life at Infosys.
Finally they announced for the Online Test. I appeared in the Online test and try my best to make it.
About Questions paper:
The Structure of the questions paper was:
100 Questions divided in different sections like.
1 - English Aptitude test.
2 - Numerical Aptitude test.
3 - Data Interpretation Aptitude test.
English Aptitude test comprises of (Level:Easy).
1 - 3 Long paragraph including 5 questions in each.
2 - Sentence Rearrangement.
3 - Find the error in the sentence.
Numerical Aptitude test section comprises of (Level:Moderate).
1 - Basic aptitude questions.
2 - Puzzle base questions.
3 - Time and distance, Age related questions, etc.
Data Interpretation Questions comprises of (Level:Hard as so much calculation required).
1 - Data Sufficiency section.
2 - Pie chart, Tabular form and bar char questions.
Some basic Suggestions for the test paper.
1 - Maintain time.
2 - Try to do easy questions first.
3 - Don't give so much time for a question, Leave it if you are unable to solve it in one attempt.
4 - Solve data sufficiency questions first, then after data Interpretation section, then after English sentence rearrangement, then after puzzle based question, then after DI questions, At last English paragraph (Give at least 20 minutes for the paragraph sections it comprises of 10-15 questions).
After the Online test Result declared after 2 hours. Everyone expects their name in the list. I was confident to get selected. Hearts beats going fast as the declare the names but after declaring the 50 names they stop. Everyone thought there will be the another list. But everyone shocked to hear as they announced this is final list of shortlisted students. I was not in the list (It was hard to believe). There was No MCA student in the list. Finally I returned with broken heart from the Main hall. Many of the students broke into tears. This time Infosys team selects only 50 students in aptitude test because of the rescission and other reasons. (Don't know as we ask for the HR but they did not tell us.).
But we forget all this after the couple of days and start preparing for the next company. I got selected in Videocon after appearing in Dell, Newgen Software and some other big companies.
Moral:
Never lose your heart if you can't make in your dream company. Try and try until you find your deserving place. Hard work always works.
Some Suggested Readings for the aptitude test:
1 - Practice hard Level-3 and Level-2 Questions of Data Interpenetration from Internet and are S Agrawal and other best possible (Don't rely much on RS Aggrawal Book).
2 - Practice hard on English Grammar (Error Correction and Error Delectation) from CAT level book.
3 - Practice puzzle question from internet.
"Hard you practice. There will be more chances for the selection".
"Internet is the vast resource try it and best manner".
All The Best :).
Anoop Gupta.

Infosys - Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of Engineering and
Technology, Ferozepur, 8 Oct. 2012
The
aptitude paper was very easy.
One of the question was: There was given a series in which hexagons were there, each hexagon was divided in six parts and numbers were assigned to each part. In first hexagon numbers were present as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. In second 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. In third 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. In 4th hexagon first number was missing and we had to guess that number.
Answer was obviously 4.
The basic reason backing the aptitude has changed. Now they are looking if the candidate can manipulate things. Another there was given a pie chart and we had to do some calculations based on that and needless to say it was also very easy as only addition, sub, division, multiplication had to be used in it.
5 questions were based on syllogism. Do practice syllogism by using venn diagrams and not theoretically as it makes the task lot more easier and faster (you can check it on this website and in the "DISCUSS IN FORUM" given below each question).
Please do give preference to English as they lay a lot of emphasis on it.
INTERVIEW:
The interviewer didn't ask me for any introduction. He began from asking me what was the latest supercomputer. Then he asked me "When he was coming from Ludhiana to Ferozepur, on the highway he saw that many accidents took place every day.
He asked me that if I were the manager what steps would I take to make an internet application about analyzing the number of deaths taking place everyday, peak time when max number of accidents took place, etc.
I answered that first I would say the web designers to begin working on the design of website and then I will call a meeting to discuss other aspects like how to gather data about accidents. Then he asked me how I could gather data.
I replied that ambulance and police are first to reach there. So I can get data from civil hospitals or police stations. Then he asked me what would I do if I encounter an error after the app is complete. The answer he was expecting was just to say that I will analyse it from the beginning to get out the place of error.
Then he asked that it would be very time consuming to find error in this way. Then I said I will use modular programming in which a small prototype is built and tested and then further modules are added in it by subsequent testing at each level.
He then asked how will I come to know when a particular module is completed. I said that there is a "99% SYNDROME" i.e. managers think that 99% of their work is complete even when only 40% of the work has been done.
So to keep a check on when a module is completed we should set a milestone for every module. Eg: we can set that until the documentation is not complete the module is also not complete.
It was purely a HR interview.
You definitely need to have fluency in English.
The interview lasted for 15 min approx. And results came about in an hour. Alas! I was selected. All thanks to indiabix.com.
Guys am not much of an intelligent person, if I can do you can also do it. The advantage I got was because of their emphasis on English and rigorous practicing on this website for more than one month.
I nearly did every question present on this website and this was the only thing I did. This website is more than sufficient. You can learn lot of things in "DISCUSS IN FORUM" section given below each question. So don't miss even a single comment and keep helping others.
Thank you.
